Sponsorships - What the Government sees

Government and the Freedom of Choice Enterprise

                                                            Working together for your Sport.

(1) The Queensland Department of Sport and Tourism offers very professional Seminars on ******** and Marketing Sports,                  including compliance, which are identical to marketing other Business Products or Services.

(2) Sponsorships are a significant factor in Marketing any Sport to potential competitive players of all ages.

(3) The significant factors of a Sponsorship are it’s Tax Deductibility and as the 20% of the Marketing $ that works.

(4) Sport is a significant factor in marketing Tourism - evidenced by the two elements in the one Government Ministry.

(5) Tourist Resort Tax Deductible travel, accommodation, dining etc. is a big part of "Business" expense.

(6) Tax Planning is all about Business Expense Tax Deductions - i.e. Minimisation within ATO Part IVA of AITAA97

(6) Seminars on Marketing, Sponsorships and Tax Planning are Business Tax Deductions - including travel, accommodation, dining and wining at an appropriate Tourist Resort, together with costs of text books etc.

(7) Seminars on *********, Sport Marketing and Sponsorships are better supported by the Queensland Department of Sport and Tourism (Ms Lynn Bollen - approximately 3 days of 5 hours duration each)

(8) Tax Planning for Sponsorships is better taught by non-Government Free Enterprise Agencies. e.g. Australian Tax Planning Instructors together with the Representatives of the available Sponsors and Managers. This is due to the legal "Duty of Care" obligation when giving Tax Advice. Employees are not being legally supported by Government Departments - Federal or State other than the Australian Taxation Office. ("Duty of Care" Cohen J. Supreme Court of NSW)

(9) Because Tax Planning, including Tax Deductible Sponsorships, is a Business Tool to ensure Businesses don't go broke, it would be better that potential Sponsored Sportspersons undertake the preliminary short term Seminars for *********, Marketing and Sponsorships [see (7) above] prior to the more controversial Tax Planning Seminars.

(10) Tax Deductible TaxPlanning/Croquet/Sponsorship Seminars cost $500 for 40 hours of intensive training over a two week period. Seminars are on the Gold Coast or other Tourist Resort area - which could include the preliminaries [see (7) above].

(11) The total Tax Deductible cost of the two weeks at a Resort for the whole family could amount to over $2000 resulting in an unlimited Sponsorship capability.

(12) NB. External entertainment and expense of non-participants would not generally be Tax Deductible.

(13) We should like to advise Federal and State Members of Parliament that these planning Seminars are available for their constituents:- (see draught copy of letter to T. Abbott - MP)

    (a) who might wish to enter the Business Environment with less risk of going broke as the other 80%.

    (b) families who might like to Sponsor the family members in Sport.

    (c) Sportspersons who might like to consider being Sponsored.

    (d) established Businesses that might consider Sponsorships as the 20% of the marketing $ that works.

    (e) Clubs who might wish to market their Sport through the attractive and easy Sponsorship program.

(14) Members of Parliament and their Electoral Staff would then act as referees for their constituents to join the program - eliminating those less than attractive members of the community.
