Business Book Review

              Overview:
Books are used both for reading enjoyment and education - of this there is no doubt. Sometimes it is hard to do both at the same time. School text books fall into this category and sometimes people are reluctant to go back to text books in later life.
(Would you fancy reading the "Australian Master Tax Guide" even with the knowledge that it could make you rich and wealthy or at least minimize your tax. Strangely, I find it intriguing how it all works - but then I play Croquet)
Fortunately, some of the best things in life are learnt from books that not only tell an enjoyable story but also teach a lesson in life.
For those who seek wisdom to overcome some of life's failings try the following books that may be in the local Library or might be bought from second hand bookshops like "Sallys Boutique" Salvation Army Stores,  "Vinnys Emporium" St Vincent de Paul Op Shops, Red Cross, Life Line Shops - or might even be still in print.

        "JONATHAN LIVINGSTON SEAGULL":
                     By Richard Bach.
This favorite of a generation past is the story of the Freedom of Choice through the eyes of a beach side seagull. John L. did not wish to live his life as the others of his flock. He preferred to have a goal - to fly at Mec 1 - but he was continually warned by his so called superiors to get back into line or else.
He succeeded in flying at Mec 1 - and joined a heavenly troupe of similar minded Seagulls - and lived happily ever after.

The Book  was made into a relaxing movie and can be found on video. Neil Diamond sings and you might even find that some of his favorites - and yours - are from the sound track.

From the same author, Richard Bach:
        "ILLUSIONS - THE RELUCTANT MESSIAH":
Richard Bach is an Aviator - a Pilot - and tells his stories from the point of view of a pilot. In this case one of the pilots, Don Shimoda, is the Messiah returned in the guise of a Caterpillar Dozer Driver and part of the story is written in a Dozer Driver's Diary to make it more down to earth.
No where else is written a better idea of "Hurt" and it's psychological ramifications than in the Chapter with the "Vampire"     and the idea of "hurt". If you link to it for a moment (5 Minutes) perhaps you too can learn to be "Free" of hurt, too.

Better still buy and read the book.

We have named our Legal Bank Robbery program "Vampire" to remind us about "hurt" - and of course for HMAS "Vampire" of WWII fame and the present Navy boarder in Darling Harbour (-- not to mention the RAAF 77 Squadron Fighter Jet that wasn't, and we wont)

           Books about Business:
There are so many books around about Business its hard to know where to start. Many of them have been written by executive types for the boss or executive types rather than for budding, about to start, entrepreneurs.

Some are just written by critical Jurno's just to make a fast buck or to see themselves in print.

However, there are books of great value I would not presume to review - mainly because, although I learnt a lot from them personally, I can't recall precisely what that was or when or what.

  (1)  "How to Win Friends and Influence People"
                                            by Dale Carnegie

 (2)  "Think and Grow Rich"
                                            by Napoleon Hill

        Later Books:

 (3) "All I Really Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten"
                                            by Robert Fulghum

 (4) "If You Want to be Rich and Happy Dont Go to School"
                                     by Robert T. Kiyosaki

and also by this author - the recent 1998 Australian best seller

  (5) "Rich Dad, Poor Dad"
This book will enlighten anyone about tax and investment.

  (6) The sequel to "Rich Dad - Poor Dad" -                    "Rich Dad's Guide to Financial Freedom"

Both of these books will be reviewed here shortly to satisfy the cravings of the Robert T Kiyosaki Fan Club.

(7&8) "Sensible Share Investing" and "Realistic Real Estate Investing"                      by Austin Donnelly           Both of these books will also be reviewed shortly here too, to satisfy the cravings of the Austin Donnelly Fan Club.                                                                                         (Mr Donnelly does not answer his telephone in Brisbane. Why not?)

  Text Books:
There are, of course, text books which have been written to teach or help teachers to teach Business who have never owned a Business. Or who went broke and they are now giving vent to their vast experience - as teachers do.

These are limited, as they must be, to a syllabus written by Government Committees to ensure compliance with various Government Rules and Regulations. Would "Politically Correct" be a possibility here? Did you ever have a Chemistry Text Book at school that showed how to make a Bomb. No way! You had to pick that lot up from the University of the World - now known as the "InterNet" or www.

But any book on Business is good - some are better - those above for me, were the best.
